History and architecture
Poggio Olivo is a historic residence. Since the 17th century, this farmhouse has stood the test of time through centuries of Chianti’s history without losing its original form.
The restoration, begun in 2000 by the Tamburi Ercolani family, was guided by a single principle: do not alter, but restore. The original roof was dismantled and reassembled by hand, tile by tile. The stone walls were left in their original positions.
Every choice — from the timber used for the floors and window frames, to the terracotta flooring, to the pietra serena stone used for the architectural details — was guided by the desire to preserve the building’s historic character, whilst creating a space of absolute comfort and elegance.
The result is a home that feels authentic: not an imitation of a Tuscan country house, but a celebration of conviviality.
The interiors
The furnishings have been carefully selected over time by someone who appreciates objects for the stories they tell. Antique furniture, carefully chosen fabrics, handcrafted ceramics: each room has its own character, yet they all contribute to a cohesive atmosphere — elegant without being formal, welcoming without being ordinary.
The villa has five double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, sleeping a total of ten guests. A fully equipped kitchen, a dining room, and spacious, light-filled communal areas. Private garden with a swimming pool.
The region
We are situated on the edge of the Chianti Classico region, overlooking the Crete Senesi. The landscape is truly unforgettable: rolling hills, cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves that change colour with the seasons.
In the immediate vicinity: the Borgo Monastero and the Monastero d’Ombrone, and Montalto Castle. A short drive away are Siena, Florence, San Gimignano, Montalcino and Pienza. Poggio Olivo is an ideal base from which to explore the heart of Tuscany, with its art and culinary delights.
Practical information
The villa is available for a minimum stay of 5 nights, on an exclusive rental basis. Partial bookings are not accepted: the villa is let in its entirety to ensure guests’ privacy and complete comfort.
